2014-2015 school year was a fantastic year! Students did an excellent job working together and getting along with their classmates. There were some trying times in the classroom and we all overcame those hard times. Students had a substitute from March until the end of the year and the reports I heard where great! I want to thank my students for all of their hard work. I am very proud of all of you and I hope that you have great Summers. Send postcards if you think about it. I would love to hear about your Summer. Or better yet, create a new blog post and upload some pictures for us to see what you are up to over the Summer.

Children should be able to pick their own bed times because they may need to finish something that is due the next morning and they did not do it earlier, you can stay up and do it. Also, if you went to dinner with your parents and they came back late, you should have time to finish your homework then go to sleep. Choosing your own bed time is also good because it lets you stay up however long you want. So, if you are doing homework and you want to make sure it is right, stay up and do it. Staying up later also allows you to take your time on things and not rush because it is almost time to sleep. If you can pick your own bed time it will allow you to have more free time after you finish the homework or classes you have. This is good because if you are bored of doing work, you can take a break and then go back to doing it later. Possible reasons to not choose your own bed time are. If you stay up too late you will be tired the next day and not want to do much. This would be bad on a school day because you might fall asleep in class. Another reason is that if you go to bed too late your parents will not have any free time without you being awake. If you are always awake they will not get to watch one of their movies or talk about stuff. Something else to think about is that if you do not get enough sleep every night it can affect your health and this can be bad. The final thing is, if you do not get sleep your body cannot grow, so you will always be very short and you will be sad because all you had to do is go to bed at a good time every night. by Annie
May 13, 2015 Dear Teachers, I wish to have more choices of Week Without Walls for 9 and 10 year olds, because we get to know more facts about other countries. We can get ready for other hard trips to other countries. We can know the animals, plants and other stuff that live in the country. We can learn how to pack the stuff for outside, and inside by ourselves. If we have an opportunity to live sleep in the wild, we can learn to make tools and make a campfire. It will be a good time to learn to do these stuff so we can go to into the wild with my friends and camp there for a few nights. I wish you could give us more choices of Week Without Walls and make the schedule fun, than walking around. Sincerely, Annie Written by Annie
Will the Ranger I think Will is a good character in the Ranger’s Apprentice series. He is a good Ranger because he is very brave and does not get scared to go on wars. An important reason could be, Will is the protagonist of the book. He becomes a Ranger and comes out in most of the scenes. He is a very important character in the series because he became a leader of archery in the war of Skandia. Will did not give up when he fought with his rivals. He wins by using tricks and his mind from Ranger training. Another important reason could be, being brave. For example, even thought he was a young boy he tries his best to teach the slaves to fight with the bows. He fights in important wars that will help his kingdom from their enemies. However, Will still needed a protector protecting his beck when he uses his sax blade to block the Temuji. Will had his old friend Horace to protect him from the back because he was a natural sword fighter. An equally important reason about Will can be trying his best to save the people with him. When he was at Celtica with Evanlyn and haroce, they worked together but Will stayed in the front helping them so he got caught first by the Skandians. Afterward, when Evanlyn and Will got out of the slaves ground, Will was still very weack from being a slave in the cold weather when Evalyn was caught by the Temuji. He got a bow and went outside into the forest bravely to try finding her. Also in the book The Sorcerer in the North, he climbs up the tower in the Castle Macindaw to save his old friend Alyss from Keren. Keren is a Knight that is trying to push the lord out of his place and become a lord himself. She was trying to tell Keren all the secrets that she was not supposed to tell. Later on, I get to know that Will is a fast learner because he did quite a great job fighting and protecting his friends using only bows, arrows and a sax blade. According to this reason, I can know that he has skill of being a Ranger. He has fast feet and has good muscles to learn archery. However, he wanted to be a knight’s apprentice at the first place although the best Ranger, Halt’s apprentice, chose him. Will was a very good Ranger because he was very natural at hiding in the surroundings. He also uses a Ranger cloak to blend into places he hides. Furthermore, he fights hard with his antagonists. When he sees the Wargals, he uses his bow to aim for the parts to get herm hurt or die. He steals a Skandian bow to escape from them. Will was also helping the archers as he targeted on the Temuji warriors. He shot the best archers of the Temuji and made them fall out of their horses as they came closer to the Skandians and the Araluens. Lastly, Will was a young Ranger but a skilled archer. Even though he was good at archery he got better and better as he learned from Halt the Ranger. He could shoot anybody from a faraway place. He knows the different positions so he can make good targets at people or wild beasts like Wargals. When he uses his own Ranger bow, he makes great aims but if he uses a normal bow, he will have to change positions to make nice shots. I can know that he is a great archer because even his master said “yes” that Will will be telling the slaves what they will do in the war. Will became the leader of archery in the war because the slave had to practice with him learning the positions and the strength of pulling the bowstring. These are the reasons why I think Will is a good character in the Ranger’s Apprentice series. He liked a girl named Margo Roth Spiegelman who lived next door to him. At night they open their windows and talk about school, friendship, and planning on privater adventures! They known each other since they were little kids. When it was before the fabulous graduation, suddenly Margo disappeared in middle of nowhere. Margo didn’t leave clues, letter, or anything. What happened to Margo the suspicious one? I really liked this book because its an interesting mystery with a famous journalist, Walt Whitman. They described the people in this book really well. I liked how this book uses websites and poems to solve the mystery! This book has a lot of action scenes with some marvelous adventures! I was all alone in the Sahara, driving a Land Rover without anyone watching. Hours passed by until I drove all the way back to my tent. The next day, I would have to climb up a sand dune, which was blown into place by a sandstorm. But I couldn’t go up because there was a hyena in the way. How could I make it go away? He was grey, sand covered, and miserable. Anyways, he needed to go away, so I chucked mysandwich at him. He grabbed it and left, “that’s a load off” I said. Almost every week students take part in the 100 Word Challenge. Students are usually given a prompt to write to using only 100 words. Sometimes they are allowed to write more than 100 words. For example, this week students were given the following prompt. ... as he started they... Students were allowed to have 104 words in their writing this week. Albert recently joined our Literacy class from the Intensive English program. I wanted to share his first 100 Word Challenge. He did an excellent job! Leave him a comment. 100 WC #7

The students dressed up as different historical people, such as warriors, rulers, travelers, and philosophers. The historical people talked about their childhood, their fame, their death, some facts, and other important details about their person. Some of those famous historical people were, Timur, Genghis Khan, Pope Leo II, and Richard the Lion Hearted. The students worked hard on their project. They researched, found pictures, and worked very hard on creating their costumes. Parents, teachers, and other students came to see them. Students that came to see the Living Wax Museum recorded new facts about different historical people they visited. This was a great way to end the Cultural Studies unit. Written by Jack
One day I was hiking to an abandoned cave that was full of bats. I wanted to check out a bats eye so that’s why I want to hike there. Along the way I saw bushes and dark trees. Then I started to smell dead leaves and brown grass. When I got to the cave I heard echoes and soft flapping noises. I was excites so I ran toward the sound but suddenly a big rock splashes into the water which made me so scared I ran back. Later, I came back and touch some rocks. They were rough and hot, I grabbed my hand when my hand started to burn. I jumped in the water so I could get to the bats hideout. The water was very muddy and dark so I swam quickly before something got me. When I hit the other side, I heard loud sounds. I was very excited but my legs were covered with mud. I started holding on to the wall but the wall was so sticky and gooey that I couldn’t take my hand out so I sprinted to the bats to try to get my hand out of the walls. When I saw some bats it felt amazing to be this close to them. Some kind of smell backfired me. It was the smell of dead insects and rotten droppings. It made me think “agh, this is like smelly central”. I was lucky that I brought a clip for my nose. I managed to not faint from all these smelly things. I started looking at these adult bats but when I saw a baby one I changes my subject, I started looking at him/her but when I touched her, boom! Bats came flying everywhere. I was running crazy to get my head out of the bats claws. Finally I managed to calm the bats down. I just ran away and ran back. Before I even got back I felt something icky and wet. When I looked at my shoe I said “ewwwww, this is bat puke”. I jumped in the water to wash it off but it didn’t do anything. I started to think this was a waste of time so I decided to walk home but I tripped and hit a rock. My tongue hit the rock. I jumped up and said “ahhhh! This taste horrible”. Then I said “The rock taste like spongy, wet, and dirty rocks”. I walked out of the cave wiping the taste of rocks out of my tongue. I was thinking that maybe this was the worst day in my life. When I put my hand in my pocket I found something gooey. Then I took the object out I gasped. It was the baby bats eye. Then when I got home I thought this was the best day in my life. |
