Ms. Tower's students decided to do an assembly on concern for others, our success orientation of the month. They made three plays that are based on the following books: A Chair for My Mother, Miss Rumphius, The Three Questions. They have a different background for each play, for example, A burning building, the farm, etc. Sometimes the background changes. The students have made their own posters for the part they have to read to from the play. On each poster, they have a drawing and a paragraph of words. The little pictures are colorful and wonderful. When each play is finished. The students stood in one line or two, holding the posters up high so we could see it. Each poster had a picture and words telling us about it. The students in Ms. Towers class acted out the three plays, the story re-tell which is based on One Hen, and a song called Kindness Changes Everything. You might guess it might be kindness and politeness, but you're wrong, it is concern for others. You have to care about other people who may not be your friends. This way you can get more friends. For example, if someone falls down you should help them up and tell a adult. Each of the plays had different backgrounds. Sometimes in the middle of a play, the background changes. For example from a peaceful building and turns into a burning building. The students had their own parts of the play, song, and the story re-tell. All of their plays are made up by themselves and they had props to go with their plays. A chair for My Mother, The Three Questions, and Miss Rumphius.

One day in PE class, I was waiting to play capture the flag, but first, coach J would have to flip a coin. That is so the teams could decide which side of the park we would want. Two big fountains divided the park. Coach J brought a coin outside and was ready to flip it. He put the coin on his thumb, and flicked it to the air. Everything was so quiet that you could hear the air taking it away. I could see it rotating in the air. Heads-tails, heads-tails. My team wanted heads. I sensed that it was going to land in tails. Everybody was praying while saying, “PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.” I looked to my right. Joan was praying to god for tails. I looked to my left, Jenny’s back was towards the coins while pleading for heads. The coin went down, and coach J was about to step on it, but missed. The coin fell and started spinning. It landed on heads. Yes me team was awesome. Text by Joan and Enrico
I was standing on a big sunny field, watching the player getting ready to kick. What would happen if I miss the ball? This player kicks very well. I think he plays soccer. I looked around, all the bases were filled. This is my last chance to get it right, or else my team will lose. The player kicked the ball in the air. I was so amazed how far the ball went. The player kicked the ball in the air. I was so amazed how far the ball flew. Players on my team ran on the shining grass, heading for the speeding ball. 1…2…3…home runs! I leaped in the air wishing to catch the ball. Sadly the ball rolled off the tips of my fingers. 4...5…home runs! Oh my goodness! The whistle has been blown. The game is over. My team has lost, but the other team did well. Text by Zovic
When I was five, I was about three feet tall. That time I liked Soya milk. I liked to cry. When I was five, I really liked toy cars. I had about 200 of them. I had short hair and I was almost bald. At That time, I hated school, because my teacher was mean. They used bamboo sticks to hit us. When I was five, I spoke Malaysian to my Ayi. Now that I am ten, I am taller. Now I am a hundred and forty one tall. Now I don’t like Soya milk, I like soda. I like electronic more than toy cars now. Now, I play soccer and I am the goalie. Before I had short hair, now I have longer hair. I speak English now because I have forgotten my real language, Malay. I wonder what I will be like in the next five years. Text by Anya and Leif The nine year olds had an an assembly about the Success Orientation, Trustworthiness. Mrs. Milan's nine year old class demonstrated trustworthiness by making the letters of the trustworthiness, each letter sating something like, 'Tell the truth' for T. Groups of nine year olds made skits about trustworthiness. There were three skits. The first one was about a boy who wanted to check the time on his silver watch. There was two other boys that lied and told the boy that had the watch that the other boy stole it. They kept lying until 1 of the boys spilled it. In the same one they made the way it should have happened. There was another skit about two girls teasing a new student. At PE class one of the teasing girls could not find her shirt. The new girl hid it because she was tired of being teased at. There was one more skit about 3 boys. After the skits, the nine and ten year old teachers gave out certificates to two trustworthy students in their class. In our class, Mrs. Varvel gave Anya and Jenny got the Trustworthy certificates. Other trustworthy ten year old students that got the trustworthy certificates was May, Gia, Heyone Jin, Prashansa, Woo Jay, Yang. Afterwards, we went to our fun activities. Book Review Text by Susan This book is about a girl named Stargirl. Stargirl goes to Mica High School, some people from Mica High make fun at her, because she is strange, not normal, likes to play happy birthday on her ukulele for people. Finally she found her true love, his name is Leo. Sometimes Leo wants Stargirl to turn normal, he wants Stargirl to be like the other girls. Read this book and see what happens. I did not really like the book. It kind of got boring at the beigning and the middle. I think it’s boring because they talk too much about Stargirl. I think they should talk about some other people. There is not a lot of action parts, it’s just plain. I would recommend this book to people that don’t like scary, action, or mystery story’s. This book is not scary at all. There can be exiting parts of the book. I like action books and scary stories. So I do not like this plain and not exiting book. |
